Telecommunications in Action - Reviews

The publication of Telecommunications in Action represents a step in the right direction, because this book conveys the story of how the provision of telecommunications can supply the momentum to get development underway in many important fields such as education, health, agriculture and commerce. The ITU and Regency Foundation Networx have collaborated in the production of this book and hope to reach a broad 'non-telecommunication' audience especially in developing countries, and to spread the word on the development potential of telecommunication infrastructures by distributing the book as widely as possible.
Yoshio Utsumi, Secretary General, International Telecommunication Union

My hope is that the book may contribute to the speedy development of telecommunications worldwide and help to improve access for those still deprived of a basic human right, recognised by the United Nations: the right to communicate and to seek and receive information.
Hamadoun Toure, Director, Telecommunication Development Bureau

The Director of UNEP’s Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean was extended an invitation by Regency Foundation Networx to participate as a speaker on the subject entitled "The Motor Car, the Environment and Mexico City" at a seminar held during AutoExpo, an international automobile exhibition in Mexico City. The seminar focused on the effects of motor vehicles on the environment and was linked via the Internet using video conferencing technology to allow on and offsite experts to share their knowledge with online participants worldwide. The seminar is one of a series of international seminars in the fields of health, agriculture, education, business, the environment, governance and rural development organised as part of a global initiative to highlight the benefits of new information and communication technologies in emerging market countries.
